Capsule travel wardrobe: green to go!

I'm still looking for the perfect capsule travel wardrobe for my forthcoming trip to the UK. The only limitation is that it must come from the contents of my wardrobe, which obviously is a bit limiting in itself!  I'm also thinking of creating a virtual travel wardrobe on Polyvere, choosing items that I would buy if money was no object - there's no harm in dreaming, is there? Being practical though, the only clothes that I will be packing for my holiday are ones that I already possess, such as the clothes shown below.

This time I have picked mainly navy items for my basics, with green to give a pop of colour.

In case the colours don't show up well on your monitor, I would like to assure you that the dark shades are all navy and not black, having banished black from my wardrobe!  If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that I am going to a wedding at the beginning of my holiday, so I will have a white jacket, a smart dress and pair of heels in my suitcase in addition to the above clothes. I will also have an umbrella in my carry-on bag, as we are going to Scotland for a few days and rain isn't unknown there, even in June!

April Style Challenge - Accessorize

I enjoyed the FABruary Style Challenge so much - though some days proved particularly challenging! - that I was delighted when Imogen decided to have another Style Challenge in April. I was also relieved when I saw that, instead of having to wear something specific each day, there was to be a different theme each week. As you can see from my heading, the theme for the first week is "Accessorize".

When I was younger accessories didn't have a large role to play in my wardrobe.  I suspect that my husband wishes that things hadn't changed, as my shoes keep teetering towards his side of the wardrobe!  As I get older I have realised that too many dark colours don't flatter me, though I know the value of good quality basics that don't date, so I use accessories to brighten up my look.

On Monday I wore my navy trench coat and navy jeans when we went out, which on their own might have looked a bit dull.  However I slung this green satchel over my shoulder and tied a multi-coloured scarf around my neck, which contained green and blue amongst other colours, so the overall effect was brighter and even (dare I say it?) slightly on-trend! I bought the bag last year and was pleased to see that green was to be one of the key colours for Spring, as I have never considered myself to be a trend-setter before!

Today my accessory was a scarf that I have owned for many years and never tire of, as it contains some of my favourite colours.  I decided to make the scarf the focus of today's outfit, so wore a top and some trousers that matched it.  I think that my overall look is improved by wearing this simple scarf, which pulls together an outfit that otherwise would have looked like I had grabbed the first two things that I had come across.

Do you have a favourite accessory that you wear to brighten up your basics?  I think it's a great way for those of us who are over 60 to look more up-to-date without appearing to be fashion victims.

FABruary Style Challenge - Going Green

Today's Style Challenge is called "Going Green", which could of course just mean wearing the colour green in some form today, but also it might indicate taking environmental factors into account.  If in doubt, try and meet both criteria, I decided.  However I hadn't really thought this out before packing for my week's holiday.

I had brought a green, yellow and blue striped top with me, which I had bought in my local Aldi.  According to the label it was made in Germany, so that is better than a Far East sweatshop, plus it can be washed at 30 degrees.  Good: fairly green on both scores.  My Wallis jeans were made in Turkey, which hopefully is acceptable, and the label recommended washing them at 30 degrees to save energy.  Perfect!  Finally, my new purchase of a pair of navy shoes has to be a winner and not just because they only cost me 10€.  They were made in Spain, in a town called Elche, which is less than 40 miles away from where we are staying.  How green is that?
