My travel capsule

The photos below show the travel capsule for my recent trip to see family and friends in the UK. I was away from home for nearly two weeks, however I didn't want to carry a large suitcase as I find it tricky travelling into central London from Gatwick airport with heavy luggage. I ended up with three bags: a small cabin-sized case, a foldable canvas bag (which fits neatly on top of the case) and a rucksack.

On the way to London there were two bottles of my local Jumilla wine in my case to share with my hosts, while on the way back I had some purchases from a shopping expedition in central London to fill the gap in my case. Well, that's my excuse!

The first two photos show what I packed for my trip. My neutrals were beige and navy with accents of red, orange, olive and turquoise. These colours will be the basis of my autumn capsule wardrobe.

I wore navy trousers, my favourite blue Desigual top and a comfortable pair of navy trainers for travelling, and carried my short red trenchcoat in case it was cold when I arrived. My new purchases, which are for my Autumn capsule, were a striped top (no surprise there!), a pair of copper slim leg cotton trousers and a pair of ballerina shoes to replace a pair that have seen better days.

All of these worked well with the clothes that I had packed for my trip, so I am confident that they will fit into my existing wardrobe. As summer seems to be on its way out here in Spain, where they've had horrendous weather while I've been enjoying the sunshine in London, I will soon be organising my Autumn capsule. As in previous years, this will be inspired by Project 333 and will consist of 33 items of clothing that I will wear for the next 3 months.

  3. Callie, I think they deserve a separate blog post, don't you?! For anyone else who is wondering about the belts, I actually forgot to pack one and the day I met Callie I was wearing jeans that were a bit loose. I looked at the belts in the shop where we met for lunch, and they were expensive (over £40). I went to another shop nearby where I actually bought two belts for £10. Maybe not as good quality, but they did the job! PS By the end of my holiday I'd eaten so much that I didn't really need the belts!

  4. Lovely capsule! I'm off to The Netherlands in late Nov for a wedding and am seriously stressed over needing winter kit for the rest of the trip, and figuring out how to avoid buying an outfit I will never wear again.

    1. Thanks, Robin. For some reason I didn't see your comment earlier. Maybe I forgot to click on the Notify me button? Hope that you've sorted out your wedding outfit and travel capsule. If you haven't decided what to wear, why not go for separates that hopefully you will be able to wear again?

Since the weather cooperated by not tipping down with rain, I was fine with my usual separates. A lace short dress with a sparkly shawl was enough since we stayed at the hotel where the wedding was held. Had we needed to get across town, I don't know whether that would have worked! Others were in long dresses for the wedding but more people were at the reception/dinner in knee-length dresses and basically, I was presentable and no one cared what I looked like--the bride was lovely!

  6. Robin, I saw this when I was in London over Christmas, but I'm hopeless at using my phone and even my mini Ipad to access the internet, so didn't manage to reply! Glad to hear that the weather cooperated and it sounds as if you enjoyed yourself and looked good. As you said, the bride is the most important person (followed by the groom) and if she's lovely that's the most important thing!
